Arc of Restoration

The Arc of Restoration is a coordination and prioritization action of financial instruments and initiatives to restore the most devastated territory of the Amazon, known as the “arc of deforestation,” which accounts for 75% of the destruction of the forest. The global importance of the territory is evident: the Amazon plays an essential role in climate regulation, helping to keep the temperature of the planet lower.

With national and international public and private investments, the initiative has enabled dozens of forest restoration projects and agroforestry systems. With BRL 1.9 billion mobilized from the Climate Fund and private partners, investments in new forestry businesses were supported.

A highlighted initiative is the Restore Amazon project, which has mobilized BRL 450 million from the Amazon Fund (under the coordination of the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change - MMA) and BRL 50 million from Petrobras to recover degraded areas in conservation units, Indigenous lands, legal reserves in settlements, and small rural properties. Overall, 12 notices have been released, of which nine have been completed with the selection of 45 projects that will benefit at least eight conservation units, 39 Indigenous lands, and 80 settlements. With the results of the other notices, these numbers will be even more significant.
