Innovation

With the support of UFSCar and Embrapa, BNDES structured a project to develop and disseminate technological innovations in the forestry of native species. Support will be directed toward technological development in five key areas: seeds and seedlings, genetics, vegetative propagation, forest management, and wood technology. By replacing illegal extraction with conscious planting, the initiative seeks to create thousands of jobs and strengthen the national restoration strategy, especially in the Amazon and the Atlantic Forest, paving the way for a greener, fairer, and more competitive future.

Universities and scientific centers that have proposals for the implementation of the project can obtain more information at: inovaflorestas@bndes.gov.br.

Project benefits

Execution led by research institutes

Universities and scientific centers will be responsible for implementing the projects, with the possibility of partnerships with private companies.

Economic, environmental, and social impact

The project aims to address three fronts: scaling stable and long-term production, scaling reforestation, and generating jobs and income.

Utilization of degraded areas

Brazil has 50 million hectares of degraded pastures with low agricultural suitability, which can be used for reforestation and wood production.

Figures

BRL 24.9 million

Value of the direct contribution from BNDES to the project.

2,800

Potential for job creation after completion, with a thousand direct and indirect positions in the initial phase.

30

Total number of native species prioritized for research in the Amazon and Atlantic Forest biomes.
